Ministries Within Our Parish
Altar Servers
An altar server is a layperson who assists the priest during Mass. They perform various duties such as carrying the cross, holding the book for the priest to read from, lighting candles, and assisting with the preparation of the altar. They may also participate in other liturgical functions such as processions and benedictions.
Altar servers are typically young people, usually boys or girls who have made their First Communion, although adults may also serve in this capacity. They are trained to fulfill their duties in a reverent and dignified manner, and they play an important role in the liturgical life of the parish.
Catholic Youth Ministry
Catholic youth ministry is a program within the Catholic Church that is focused on providing spiritual guidance and formation for young people. This typically includes activities such as retreats, Bible studies, service projects, and social events. The goal of Catholic youth ministry is to help young people develop a deeper relationship with God, grow in their faith, and become active members of the Church community.
The youth ministry program is usually led by a youth minister or youth director, who works with a team of adults in conjunction with the parish priest to plan and implement the various activities and events.
Catholic youth ministry is considered an important aspect of the Church's mission, as it helps to ensure the ongoing vitality and growth of the Church by fostering the faith of the next generation.
Lectors Ministry
Lectors are those persons whose task it is to proclaim the Word of God clearly and effectively, in order to help the congregation understand and engage with the readings. The lector ministry is usually led by a coordinator or director, who works with a team of lectors to schedule and prepare for liturgical celebrations.
Catholic lectors are considered an important part of the liturgical assembly, as they help to proclaim the Word of God to the community and foster a deeper understanding and engagement with the scriptures.
Joining the Lectors Ministry is not only for adult men and women. Children who have made their First Communion can be part of this ministry. So too can teenagers and young adults
Music Ministry
Catholic music ministry is the utilization of music as a means of worship and spiritual growth within the Catholic Church. It comprises various musical genres, from traditional hymns to modern praise and worship songs. The objective of Catholic music ministry is to enrich the liturgical experience by allowing congregants to actively take part in the Mass and other liturgical celebrations through singing and other forms of musical expression. This includes choir, instrumental ensembles, and solo ministry.
Catholic music ministry also plays an important role in providing formation and training for those who lead music in the liturgy, such as directors, accompanists, and cantors.
Extraordinary Ministers Of The Eucharist
Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist (EME) are laypeople who have been commissioned by their bishop to assist the priest and deacon in the distribution of Holy Communion at Mass. They are called "extraordinary" because their role is supplementary to the ordinary ministers of Holy Communion, which are the bishops, priests, and deacons.
EMEs may also take Communion to the sick and homebound as well as to those who are incarcerated. They are trained and commissioned by their parish or diocese to perform this role and are expected to have a deep respect and reverence for the Eucharist. They are also instructed to follow the liturgical and canonical norms of the church, and should be exemplary in their Catholic faith.
The role of EMEs is to help ensure the smooth and orderly distribution of Communion, thus allowing the faithful to fully participate in the liturgical celebration.
